MARPOL CONVENTION ANNEXES
There are six technical annexes to the MARPOL 73/78 convention. The
technical annexes give the rules for the construction and equipment of ship
operations that may entail the risk of marine pollution. The technical annexes
are relevant to the daily ship operation and therefore very important to
seafarers. Each of the annexes is directed towards one particular form of
pollution. The following are the technical annexes to MARPOL 73/78 convention
and their entry into force:The annexes are either mandatory or optional.
Mandatory Annexes are those annexes that automatically bind the state, which is
a party to the convention. These are Annexes I and II (Pollution by Oil and NLS
in bulk). Optional Annexes are those annexes that are to be declared by the
concerned party state if they accept or reject the provisions. These are the
